Atipong Padanupong
The three oil paintings (shown left) were created by Thai painter Atipong Padanupong with inspiration from Tibet in 1938-1939: Photographs from the Ernst Schäfer Expedition to Tibet published by Serindia Publications (2007). He painted these three portraits for the exhibition TIBET IN 1938-1939 held at Serindia Gallery in conjunction with the conference at the Sirinthorn Anthropology Centre in August, 2009. The paintings are available and partial sales proceeds will go to the Thousand Stars Foundation. Visit the gallery to view the paintings or contact: serindiagallery@gmail.com.
Graduated from Rangsit University in 1995, artist Atipong Padanupong worked at Graphic Format, Theme AD Corp., and at the art department of the Teacher's Council of Thailand. He is now a freelance artist and volunteer for the Thousand Stars Foundation.
Atipong has always been painting, even after graduation, and six years ago he was interested in Tibetan art and saw the powerful rendition of Tibetan deities - some amid flames and very highly detailed. Truly fascinated by it, in 2004 he went to Dharamsala and studied thangka painting with exiled Tibetan artists.
Atipong travels extensively in Ladakh, India, Nepal, and other cities in the Himalaya region. He wants to blend works in Tibetan style with the realistic style that he likes, bringing together his experience with the Tibetan people under the backdrop of the beautiful trans-himalayan landscapes and the air of the roof of the world.
