ROBERT BEER - Appearance and Gallery Talk 13, 14, 16 and 30 MARCH 2010
Robert Beer, author of the Encyclopedia of Tibetan Symbols and Motifs, is one of the most gifted artists and lecturers, and it is a great opportunity to see Beer while he is in Bangkok. Beer is available at Serindia Gallery on March 13, 14 (Saturday and Sunday) from 4-8pm to introduce the exhibition and for one-on-one Q & A’s.
On Tuesday 16 and 30 March (from 6:30pm) he will give a talk on Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and Buddhist paintings of Nepal. He is available to answer your questions about the deities, the arts, and the artists who work in Kathmandu.

MONGOLIA: PLATINUM PRINTS by Hamid Sardar-Afkhami 28 January - 28 February 2010 OPENING 28 JANUARY 2010. Inspired by the pioneers of ethno-photography during the Age of Exploration, such as Edward Curtis who photographed the Indian peoples of North America and Canada, Hamid Sardar-Afkhami dedicates his cameras to making a visual record of Mongolia’s last nomad tribes. Following horse-breeders, bear-hunters, wolf-tamers, eagle-masters and reindeer riders on their seasonal migrations, Sardar-Afkhami presents timeless iconic compositions that take us to a place where men still speak the language of the animals.
Tibet Outside Tibet
Tibet Outside Tibet: A Photographer’s Journey through Tibet’s Borderlands Visit Serindia Gallery’s colorful installation of Tibet Outside Tibet, Photographs by Luke Duggleby. Luke’s photographs tell the stories of Tibetan culture along the TAR’s borders, Yunnan, and Sichuan. The exhibition consists of the following themes: Pilgrimage, Tibetan Catholics, Tibetan Nuns, Ancient Salt Terraces of Yanjing, Tibetan Nomads, and Shangrila. Signed prints of Luke’s photographs are available at the gallery, along with books related to the subjects of Tibet, Yunnan, Amdo, Kham, and other travel guides.

Paris in Panorama Don’t miss out on Serindia Gallery’s latest exhibition, which runs through 31 October. Jaroslav Poncar’s photographs of Paris have only been exhibited once in Paris in 2002 and here for the first time in Asia. To coincide with the international conference “Archiving Culture in the Digital Age” at the Princess Maha Chakri Sirinthorn Anthropology Center, this exhibition is based on Serindia’s book of the same title, which recounts the history and illustrates photographs of the German expedition led by Ernst Schäfer to Tibet in 1938. It is one of the most fascinating period in Tibet’s history as Western powers vie for access to Asia. The photographs - portraits, landscapes, cultural interactions - are of important anthropological and historical values, casting new light in the contemporary history of Tibet.
Thai artist, Atipong Padanupong, an avid photographer and painter who is at once fascinated by Tibet and Himalayan cultures, contributed his oil paintings of Tibetan portraits for the exhibition
