Myanmar: Recent Portraits by Hamid Sardar-Afkhami
20 February – 22 March 2015
This exhibition offers a preview of Hamid Sardar-Afkhami’s works in Myanmar. In the year after Myanmar opened up to the world, filmmaker and photographer Hamid Sardar-Afkhami charted a new exploration in ethnographic portraits in Myanmar’s most diverse pools in the northwest. The selections offer a glimpse into this region’s animistic and shamanistic practices, the coexistence and contrast between local and foreign beliefs. Bringing traditional portrait compositions in full colours, Sardar-Afkhami’s works offer vivid views of the state of Myanmar’s ethno-religious existence.
Opening on Silom/Charoen Krung Gallery Hopping Night, Friday 20 Feb.
